Final Fantasy Tactics (FFT) - Walkthrough - by ibaam.com

The Deep Dungeon

The Deep Dungeon can be accessed after you finish the battles at Murond Holy Place.

To get there, just walk over to Warjikis Trade City and you'll see a scene with Ramza at a bar.  Once you leave, a new path will open to the Deep Dungeon.

The Deep Dungeon consists of 10 levels containing the most powerful enemies you've ever faced.  Not only that, but all of the levels are completely dark.  You can see yourself and the enemies, but you won't be able to see the terrain, but you can easily offset this by pressing move and just moving your scrollers around.  Besides that, the most powerful equipment in the game is located in each level, and only a character with LOW BRAVE and Move-Find Item can get these items.  So Beowulf and Rafa are good choices.

To make things even worse, each level has a certain exit.  To get to the next levels, you have to step on a certain square.  This square is RANDOM: it's not always near the end where your opponents are, it can be anywhere, even in the center of the map.  This is the most difficult and frustrating part of the Deep Dungeon, and it takes forever(for me, always at least 30 minutes) to find the exits.  You can go to GameFaqs.com for a Deep Dungeon Exits guide.

The weird part about the Deep Dungeon is that each of the 10 levels all have something to do with the Vietnam War and the movie "Apocalypse Now".  Nogias is Saigon spelled backwards, and Mlapan is Napalm spelled backwards.  To make things even weirder, press Select when highlighting the levels for weird philosophical messages that absolutely make no sense at all.  Here they are:

Weird, isn't it?

Oh well.  I'm too lazy to write a real Deep Dungeon guide, but I will write some battles strategies for some of the levels.  I will also incorporate Notti's Deep Dungeon Guide in here, as his is the only guide I've seen that gives full coordinates on the item locations.

-----------Good/Bad------------ (x,y) Trap
Kiyomori/Phoenix Down    (6,1) Death Trap
Glacier Gun/Phoenix Down (1,10) Sleeping Gas
Elixir/Phoenix Down      (4,10) Steel Needle
Blaze Gun/Phoenix Down   (8,8) Death Trap

This is a pretty easy level.  The enemies are really simple, and you start out on a mountaintop, while the enemies are under.  Try to get the Blaze and Glacier Gun.

Elixir/Phoenix Down         (3,2) Degenerator
Blood Sword/Phoenix Down    (7,5) Death Trap
Save the Queen/Phoenix Down (1,11) Sleeping Gas
Elixir/Phoenix Down         (5,12) Steel Needle

Another easy level.  I don't need to give you any tactics here.  The Save the Queen sword is the only good item here.

Mace of Zeus/Phoenix Down (2,10) Death Trap
Yoichi Bow/Phoenix Down   (8,7) Sleeping Gas

All you have to do is bring ranged attackers like Worker 8 and you'll win easily.  Be sure to get the mace of Zeus, the most powerful rod in the game, and the Yoichi Bow, the second most powerful bow in the game!

Kaiser Plate/Phoenix Down (11,1) Sleeping Gas
Fairy Harp/Phoenix Down   (11,2) Death Trap
Faith Rod/Phoenix Down    (12,3) Steel Needle

Bring ranged attackers again and you'll win easily.  By the way, the Kaiser Plate is a SHIELD for some weird reason.

Iga Knife/Phoenix Down (1,1) Sleep Gas
Excalibur/Phoenix Down (3,4) Death Trap
Elixir/Phoenix Down    (1,7) Steel Needle
Elixir/Phoenix Down    (7,1) Death Trap

Most people don't know this, but to get down to where the monsters are, just head out the back way!  By this, I mean you should walk to the back of the level to find the passage to the bottom.  You definitely want to get the Excalibur.

Secret Clothes/Phoenix Down (10,1) Sleeping Gas
Cursed Ring/Phoenix Down    (10,2) Steel Needle
Elixir/Phoenix Down         (11,1) Death Trap
Blast Gun/Phoenix Down      (11,2) Death Trap

The items here are all pretty stupid, except for the Blast Gun, the most powerful gun in the game that fires lightning bullets.  Summoners and Wizards work well here.

The items found here kinda suck, but if you really want to, get the Koga Knife.  The Sage Staff is useless, though.  Finding the exit is a real pain in this level.

-----------Good/Bad------------ (x,y) Trap
Elixir/Phoenix Down        (3,4) Steel Needle
Ragnarok/Phoenix Down      (4,6) Sleeping Gas
Robe of Lords/Phoenix Down (7,7) Death Trap
Perseus Bow/Phoenix Down   (9,8) Death Trap

Some good items here.  The Ragnarok is poweful, but not as good as the Excalibur, because it gives auto Shell but not haste.  The Robe of Lords is THE BEST ROBE IN THE GAME.  You should definitely pick it up if you have any magic users.  It gives auto protect and shell.  You should always get the Perseus Bow, the best bow in the game, but at this point in FFT, you shouldn't be using Archers anymore, since they don't do that much damage.

Elixir/Phoenix Down          (2,7) Steel Needle
Grand Helmet/Phoenix Down    (9,6) Death Trap
Maximillian/Phoenix Down     (3,10) Sleeping Gas
Venetian Shield/Phoenix Down (9,5) Death Trap

Okay, time to get serious!  The best Knight's equipment is down in this level.  You DEFINITELY want the Grand Helmet and Maximillian.  The Venetian Shield is also really good, but it isn't as good as the Escutcheon(II), but get them all anyway.

-----------Good/Bad------------ (x,y) Trap
Chirijiraden/Phoenix Down (6,1) ----
Elixir/Phoenix Down       (6,3) ----
Elixir/Phoenix Down       (8,1) ----
Chaos Blade/Phoenix Down  (8,3) ----

The TOUGHEST boss in the game is located down here.  I recommend not getting any items at all first, and then after you beat the boss, revisit to get the rest of the items.  When you first arrive here, a man named Elidibs will speak to you, and then he'll transform into another Lucavi for you to fight.  You'll also have to fight several Apandas(you know, the demons with the Bio attacks) on the way.  This is a tough level because Elidibs has the best summon spell in the game: Zodiac, which is basically guaranteed to kill any party member if you're unlucky enough to be hit by it.  Luckily, it takes forever to charge, so you should be able to kill him quickly enough.  However, there is actually a way to learn Zodiac!  You just need to bring a Summoner and make them get hit by Zodiac and survive.  But Zodiac is incredibly powerful, so you'll need to lower that Summoner's faith(with the Mediator's Solution skill) to around 10 to survive Zodiac.  I recommend using Malak for this job, as his faith is already pretty low.  Also, you'll get a guest for this battle, Byblos, a purple apanda.  I recommend you don't let him join you after the battle, because he isn't that good.

By the way, once you beat this level, get the Chaos Blade and Chirijiraden, the most powerful Knight Sword and Samurai Sword!
